Desakkaran follows Aswathi, a PhD scholar researching Northern Malabar folklore. She visits Thechikkad village to study Thirayattam/Theyyam and uncovers the story of Bhaskaran, a cruel landlord who drove Thirayattam artist Kannaperuvannan, known as "Desakkaran," away, disrupting temple rituals and causing village disasters. The authorities turn to Kannaperuvannan's son, Dr. Anand, a physician, to restore the rituals. Despite having no experience, Anand accepts a divine call and performs the art perfectly, stunning everyone, including his enemies. Bhaskaran plots to kill him during the final performance, but divine intervention helps Anand succeed, restoring peace. Aswathi captures this moment for her thesis, earning acclaim for her portrayal of Desakkaran's revival.
